Paul Fiddler, McGregor, Iowa, February 22, 2019

Paul Fiddler, 97, of McGregor, Iowa died Friday, February 22, 2019 at Prairie Maison under hospice care in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was the son of Michael and Jennie (Albright) Fiddler. Paul was baptized and confirmed Catholic. He attended school in Blue Earth, Minnesota.

Paul was united in marriage with Delores Radermaker on August 2, 1950 in Butler, Kansas. He farmed before being drafted into the United States Army on December 18, 1944.  Paul served six months in the South Pacific, before being discharged on January 31, 1946. He was at the signing of Japan Peace Treaty.

After he returned from service, Paul moved from Minnesota to Wichita, Kansas where he was a care taker at a race track. He then moved to Marquette, Iowa, where he farmed, worked at a feed mill and hauled milk, then he moved to Seneca, Wisconsin where he continued to farm. Paul eventually moved back to McGregor, Iowa and worked at Martin Lutheran Prep School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and ran Fiddler’s Bait Shop until his retirement. Paul enjoyed fishing, car racing, farming and hunting. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his children, Paula (Alvin) Ready of Eastman, Wisconsin, Paul B. (Sandy) Fiddler Jr. of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Mary (Jeff) Schwendinger of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Marguerite “Cookie” (Kipi) Platten of Steuben, Wisconsin.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Delores; two daughters, Reberta McMahon and Kathyrn Steinback; son, David Fiddler; grandsons, Shawn Eick and Cody Fiddler; his parents, Michael and Jennie Fiddler; two brothers, Charles and Francis Leo Fiddler; and one sister, Marguerite M. Teeter.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa.

A Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Knipper as the celebrant.

Burial will be held at a later date.
