Gustav R. Lutz, Elkader, Iowa, March 6, 2019

 Gustav R. Lutz, 85 of Elkader, Iowa passed away on Wednesday 6 March, 2019 at his daughter’s house under hospice care.

Gustav was born on 16 April, 1933, in Elkader, Iowa, to Gustav A. and Caroline A. Lutz.  He received his education at Central Community School.   Gustav was a golden glove boxer from the age of 12 to 14.   Gustav was united in marriage to Marjorie Peterson in June 1953, and divorced.  He was united in marriage to Louise E. Phelps 16 June, 1956.  He worked at the Lutz Locker and later owned the Locker until its closing in 2010.

Gustav served in the United States Army from 1953-54, serving in Germany as an Army cook. In 2013, he had the privilege of flying on the honor flight.  Gustav served as the Leader of the Volga Valley Feeders 4H club for several years.  He was an active member of the Whistling Bit Trail Ride Club for many years.  Gustav was a member of the Iowa Meatpackers Association.  Gustav was an active member of the American Legion Post 106 and provided military honors for numerous veterans.

He is survived by five children, Steve (Donna) Lutz of Elkader, IA, Gustav W. Lutz of Strawberry Point, IA, Walter E. Lutz and Rosanna L. (Robert) Zamora both of Elkader, IA, William G. (Susan) Lutz of Fort Benning, GA; 14 Grandchildren;  and 8 Great Grandchildren (and 1 on the way), many friends including his “Pronto Buddies.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Gustav A. and Caroline A. Lutz;  his wife, of 54 years, Louise E. Lutz; a sister, Katherin Lutz; a brother, Lester Lutz; and a daughter, Kimberly L. Lutz.

Memorial Service with Military Honors: 2:00 on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Grace Evangelical Free Church in Elkader with Pastor Lee Smith officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 PM until service time at the church.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.
