Dorothy M. Nuehring, Postville, Iowa, April 24, 2019

Dorothy M. Nuehring, 89, of Postville, Iowa died Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home in Postville, Iowa.  Dorothy May was born December 26, 1929 in Hartford Township, Iowa County in Victor, Iowa to Fred Martens and Elda Behrens Martens. She was baptized on January 8, 1930 at her home by the Rev. Kitzman. Dorothy went to school at St. John’s Lutheran in Victor, Iowa and was confirmed on May 23, 1943 by Rev. R. P. Young. After school she helped her father with the farming.

On June 5, 1960, Dorothy married Alden “Jim” Nuehring at St. John’s Lutheran Church by Rev. E. Meier. They then moved to Postville, Iowa and made their home on the Nuehring Farm south of town. Dorothy worked beside her husband with the farming and the dairy herd.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, served on a number of church committees including, Women of the Church, Altar Guild and Cemetery Board. Dorothy was also a member of the Prosperous Ridge Club for over fifty years and a member of the Red Hat Ladies .

Dorothy and Jim moved into town after their farm sale in November of 1989 to their house on Lull Street. After the death of Jim, Dorothy sold her house and moved into the East Park Terrace, then lived at the Grand Meadows Glen for 8 months. Dorothy was in an automobile accident and since then she has been in the Good Samaritan Society nursing home. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and also did a lot of embroidering.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Clara Jack of Victor, Iowa; nephews, Mervin (Linda) Jack of Victor, Iowa; Myron (Rhonda) Jack of Victor, Iowa; niece, Mary (Kurt) Gillette of Springville, Iowa; great- nephews, Neal (Cara) Jack of Victor, Iowa; David (Michelle) Jack of Avondale, Arizona; Derek (Natalie) Jack of Grinnell, Iowa; great-nieces Sherry (Mike) Reifenstahl of Dysart, Iowa; Nichole (Robert) Miller of Springville, Iowa; great-great-nieces, Kayla and Hailey Jack of Victor, Iowa ,Violet Jack of Grinnell, Iowa and Lillian Jack of Avondale, Arizona;  great-great-nephews, Ryan and Matt Reifenstahl of Dysart, Iowa; Thomas Jack of Grinnell, Iowa; in-laws, David (Nancy) Nuehring of Sun City, Arizona; Shirley (Lowell) Lange of Hampton, Iowa; Paul Nuehring of California; Lee (Linda) Thoma of Urbana, Iowa; Russ (Cathy) Thoma of Gurney, Illinois; great nephew Brian Thoma of Gurney, Illinois; Linda (Chris) Johnstin of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; Michael De Marr of Illinois; niece Joyce Nuehring of Postville, Iowa; sister-in-law Darlene Nuehring of Postville, Iowa.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; parents, Fred and Elda Martens; niece, Marilyn Schott; and brother-in-law, Burdette Jack.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.

Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa
