John Harvey Haltmeyer, 82, of McGregor, Iowa died Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. John was born November 26, 1936 to Harvey and Rosella “Rose” C. (Mitzner) Haltmeyer in McGregor, Iowa. He graduated from McGregor High School in 1954. John continued his education at Iowa State University for one year before going to work for the railroad. He then went to U.W. Platteville and graduated with a teaching degree.
John was united in marriage with Adaline Johnson. After her death, he married Ruth Roellich. They later divorced. Throughout the years, John taught in Sparta, Wisconsin and owned an antique shop in Stoddard, Wisconsin. He bought and sold early Norwegian and early American Antiques and was well known in the U.S. John sold the antique business in the early 1990’s and semi-retired. John was a member of the Illinois Long Rifle Association and enjoyed trout fishing, reading and going to antique auctions.
John is survived by his sister, Rosemary Casberg of McGregor, Iowa; special friend, Nancy Lerdall of Decorah; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Adaline Haltmeyer; and parents, Harvey and Rosella Haltmeyer.
