Laurayne Schulte, Evansdale, Iowa, formerly of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, June 25, 2019

Laurayne Schulte, 87, of Evansdale, Iowa, formerly of Harpers Ferry, Iowa died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at New Aldaya Lifescapes in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Laurayne was born March 26, 1932 to Urban and Ruth (Farley) Hawes in Lansing, Iowa. She attended country school in Wexford through the eighth grade and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Lansing in 1949.

Laurayne was united in marriage to John A. Schulte on October 4, 1949 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford, Iowa. To this union three children were born. John later passed away.

In addition to caring for her household, Laurayne worked at the grocery store in Harpers Ferry, as well as multiple factories over the years in Waukon, McGregor, and Lansing, before her retirement in 1997. After retirement, Laurayne moved to Evansdale, Iowa to be closer to her family.

Laurayne enjoyed playing bingo, creating her own greeting cards, and spending time with friends over coffee.

Laurayne is survived by her children, Lawrence “Larry” (Sheryl) Schulte of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and Linda (Kevin) Loy of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Jan Schulte of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; five grandchildren, Bethany Schulte, Breanna Schulte, Eric Schulte, Elle Loy, and Nicole (Youssef) Saleh; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Ann Hawes-Cordova of Waterloo, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Urban and Ruth; husband, John; son, John “Jack” Schulte; and brother, Daniel J. Hawes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm with a 7:00 pm Scripture Service on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at St. Ann-St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, Iowa.  There will also be a one hour visitation before mass at the church on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at St. Ann-St. Joseph Catholic Church, Harpers Ferry, Iowa with Rev. John Moser as the celebrant. Co-Celebrants will be Msgr. Cletus Hawes and Rev. Donald Hawes.

Burial will follow at St. Joseph Paint Rock Cemetery, Harpers Ferry, Iowa.
