Viola Dennler, Volga, Iowa, June 6, 2019

Viola Mae Dennler, 80 of Volga, died Thursday, June 6, 2019, at the Elkader Care Center. Viola was born October 17, 1938, at Delaware, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Raymond and Lela (Grapes) Schanbeck.  She graduated from Dundee High School.  On January 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Virgil Dennler at the United Methodist Church at Masonville, Iowa.  After raising her family, Viola worked at the filling station in Volga, Norby’s Farm Store and volunteered at the Elementary School in Elkader and the Osborne Welcome Center.  She was a member of the Chit Chat Club, the Ladies Circle at Peace Church, and taught Sunday School for many years.

Viola and Virgil farmed together for 60 years.  During this time, she cared for many sick, injured or orphaned animals – domestic and wild.  She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids grow and participate in activities.  When called upon, she was happy to babysit for the neighborhood kids.

Viola joined the Chit Chat Club, which suited her personality perfectly.  She definitely had the gift of gab and enjoyed the comradery with the other members.  She enjoyed traveling across the United States and a special trip she and Virgil took to Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

She is survived by her husband Virgil; four children, Dwayne (Deb) Dennler of Elkader, David (Lois) Dennler of Elkader/Waterloo, Diane Dennler of Mason City, and Dale (Stephanie) Dennler of Cresco; grandchildren, Brant (Sarah) Schoulte, Stephanie Dennler, Megan (Alex) Klintworth, Kristy Maness, Noah Downing, Lexton Downing, and Ella Mae Dennler; five great grandchildren, Gavin Schoulte, Aiden Schoulte, Isabel Schoulte, Brielle Maness, and Gracelyn Maness; and two sisters, June Hicok (Phil Hoehn) and Lois Peltz (Charlie Peterson).

She was preceded in death by her parents, her grandson Ryan, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
