Alice Luster, Lansing, Iowa, July 15, 2019

Alice Luster, 88, of Lansing, Iowa died Monday, July 15, 2019 at her home in Lansing, Iowa.  Alice Dorothy was born December 17, 1930 to Benjamin and Mary (McNamara) Mullarkey in Lansing, Iowa. She was baptized at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford, Iowa. Alice graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1948.

Alice was united in marriage with Norbert Hawes on August 22, 1950 in Wexford, Iowa. Norbert passed away on January 18, 1955. Alice was then united in marriage with Ernest Luster on June 29, 1957. Alice worked as the Superintendent’s Secretary for Eastern Allamakee Community School District for twenty-seven years until her retirement.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  Alice was very active in church and community groups, including the Rosary Society and National Catholic Society of Foresters. She enjoyed walking, baking and spending time with family. Alice volunteered at the Thornton Manor.

Alice is survived by her children, Mary Carpenter, New York City, New York, Jean (Carl) Ruzich, Beecher, Illinois,  Dennis (Kate) Luster, Rockford, Illinois, Bruce (Kathy) Luster, Frisco, Texas, Sara (Juan Carlos) Meza, Ponte Vedra, Florida; daughter-in-law, Carol Luster, East Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Amy, Anna, Ben, Kristen, Lisa, Elizabeth, Olivia, Emma, Maggie, Annie, Jack; six great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brittany, Kyle, Lindsey, Cole, Annalyn; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Mullarkey.

Alice was preceded in death by her husbands, Norbert Hawes and Ernest Luster; parents, Benjamin and Mary Mullarkey; son, Thomas Luster; grandson, Kevin Carpenter; siblings, Rita Brannan, Linus Mullarkey, Ann DeLong, Elizabeth Burg, Francis Mullarkey, Mary Schellhammer, Vincent Mullarkey and infant siblings, Mary Florence, Marguerite and Bernard.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing Iowa with a visitation one hour before Mass at the church on Friday. Rev. John Moser will be the Celebrant.

Inurnment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Alice Luster request donations be given to : Lansing Emergency Medical Services , 51 South Front Street, Lansing, Iowa 52151 for new and updated equipment; Lansing Public Library, 515 Main Street, Lansing, Iowa 52151;  Immaculate Conception Church , 648 Main Street, Lansing, Iowa.
