Betty Meyer, 94, of Postville, Iowa died Monday, July 22, 2019 at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa. Born Betty Ann Meier on June 11, 1925 to George and Christine (Sheehy) Meier, she was a lifelong resident of Postville, Iowa. While attending high school there, Betty participated in several extracurricular activities and also worked in her father’s grocery store. After graduation in 1942, Betty did secretarial work for Groth Packing and Hall Roberts’ Son. On December 28, 1946, Betty married Loren (Gus) Meyer at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Postville. They enjoyed sixty-eight years of marriage until his death in 2015. Betty and Gus had three daughters, Mary Beth, Patricia and Deborah.
Betty spent many years doing bookkeeping for Gus’s Plumbing and Heating, attending her daughters’ many activities, playing bridge, golfing, boating, baking delicious pies, cakes and cinnamon rolls and spending time with her neighbors and friends. As her grandchildren arrived, she enjoyed precious time with them when they would visit in Postville or she and Gus would travel to see them. She brought as much joy to them as they gave to her.
Betty is survived by three daughters, Mary Beth Meyer of Rochester, Minnesota, Patricia Kohner (James Towers) of Onalaska, Wisconsin, and Deborah Meyer-Vilensky (Joel Vilensky) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three grandchildren, Stephanie Olson (Daryl Kuhlman), Sarah Vilensky (Andrew Anderson) and Rachel (Juan Pablo) Roman-Lagunas; and great-grandchildren, Michael and Luke Shumway, Lauren Olson, Eliza and Emelina Anderson, and Sebastian, Nicolas, Gabriela and Isabel Roman-Lagunas.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Loren (Gus) Meier; her parents, George J. and Christine Meier and her brother, George Meier.
