Terrance “Terry” Joseph Auer, 64, of Ossian, Iowa formerly of Postville, Iowa died Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin after battling bile duct cancer. Terry was born December 29, 1954 to Ralph and Ruth (Hayes) Auer in Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1973 and later went on to graduate from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa.
Terry was a loving son, brother and uncle, we miss him dearly. He would take his nephews to the movies, play ball, and go on trips with them to fun places. Terry cherished every moment he got to spend with friends and family. He truly appreciated every little thing that was done for or given to him. He had a way with animals and loved caring for his pets throughout the years. Terry had a wonderfully witty sense of humor, everyone who got to know him would agree. His hobbies included a love of music, guitars, oil painting, black and white photography and bicycling. Terry was also a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Vikings.
He survived by his father, Ralph Auer, of Decorah, Iowa; sister, Linda Holthaus of Castalia, Iowa; three nephews, Chad (Shelly) Auer of Decorah, Iowa, Shawn Holthaus of Castalia, Iowa and Ryan (Lori) Holthaus of Mason City, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Terry was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Auer; sister, Deanna Auer; brother-in-law, Cleo Holthaus; paternal grandparents, Edward and Josaphine Auer; and maternal grandparents, Patrick and Marjorie Hayes.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa is helping the family with arrangements. To honor Terry’s request, there will be no funeral service held.
