Rose Marie Vlazny, Monona, Iowa, October 4, 2019

Rose Marie Vlazny, 92, of Monona, Iowa died Friday, October 4, 2019 at Veterans Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. She was born March 16, 1927 to Linus and Helena (Voss) Berns at their home in Monona, Iowa. Rose attended 7th and 8th grade at St. Patrick Catholic School, Monona, Iowa and graduated from Luana Consolidated School, Luana, Iowa. Rose grew up speaking only German at home and learned English when she came to first grade at Luana Consolidated School.

Rose was united in marriage with Leo Martin Vlazny on August 30, 1949 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Mary Ann and Joseph. Rose was a waitress at Johnson’s Café for a short time and worked at Monona Dry Good Store for three years. After marriage she became a housewife and farmed with her husband until they moved to Monona in 1983.

Rose collected angel knick-knacks and anything with a rose on it. She enjoyed taking care of her houseplants (at one time she had more than 300 African Violets), flower gardening and spending time with Poochie, her Yorkie, she loved dogs.

Rose is survived by her children, Mary Ann Turner of Waterloo, Iowa and Joseph (Lori) Vlazny of St. Olaf, Iowa; grandchildren, Krista Begalske, Andrew Vlazny, Kelsey Vlazny, Mackenzie Vlazny and Mackayla Vlazny; great-grandchildren, Zachary Hinman, Parker Begalske and Mason Begalske.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband Leo in 1998; her parents and grandson, Jeremy Vlazny in 1995.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 8, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and also one hour before Mass at the church on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa with Rev. Nils de Jesus Hernandez as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Church Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
