Cole Sanchez, West Union, Iowa, October 2, 2019.

Cole Brady (Schatz) Sanchez, 34, of West Union, Iowa died unexpectedly Wednesday, October 2, 2019 in West Union, Iowa. Cole, the son of Randy Sanchez and Erin Schatz, was born August 29, 1985 in Dallas, Texas. He lived in Dallas and San Jose, California until he was five years old when he moved to West Union, Iowa.  At the age of twelve he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. After Cole graduated from high school, he entered the Fire Academy in Albuquerque and became the youngest firefighter to graduate with the Class of 2008. He worked as a professional firefighter from 2009-2014 and then moved back to West Union.

Cole was baptized September 15, 1989 at the United Methodist Church in West Union. Cole was a beautiful happy child that was loved as much as anyone could be loved. He was also a very driven person. When he decided to do something, he would accomplish the task. Many of you may remember his love of skateboarding around town when he was young.  He also enjoyed running, golfing, and he especially loved music.

Cole is survived by his mother, Erin Schatz; his father and step-mother, Randy and Angela Sanchez; brother, Jordan Sanchez; sister, Amber Sanchez; grandmother, Elma Sanchez; aunt and uncle, Kara and Kerry Wedemeier; cousin, Suzanne Rowe and Drew Wedemeier; and many other cousins.

Cole was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Mardelle Schatz and Jack Schatz; paternal grandfather, Rudy Sanchez; and an uncle, Blair Schatz.

The family would like to thank the West Union Police Department and the Fayette County Sheriff Department for helping them through a very difficult time in their lives. Also, a big thank you  to some close family friends who have helped support the family through the years.

Life is not always easy for some people. Cole’s family’s thoughts  are with other families that are dealing with mental illness. You are not alone. God bless you.

There will be a Graveside Service held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
