Gene Medberry, Freeport, Illinois formerly of Postville, Iowa, January 13, 2020

Gene Robert Medberry, 92, of Freeport, Illinois formerly of Postville, Iowa died Monday, January 13, 2020 at Stephenson Nursing Center in Freeport, Illinois.  Gene was born September 30, 1927 to Rex and Eva (Lehman) Medberry near Elgin, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in 1950 by The Rev. Fredrick R. Ludwig at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Gene attended Highland Country School and later Postville High School, where he graduated in 1945. He attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa from 1945 to 1949 with a break in between when he served in the United States Army in 1946 to 1947.

Gene was united in marriage with Gladys Meyer on April 27, 1950 in Postville, Iowa. Gene graduated from electronic training at Coyne Technical School in Chicago. He was employed by Modern Appliance in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gene was an Electronic Technician for Martin Marietta in Denver, Colorado. Worked for several other companies in Palo Alto, California. Gene became an Environmental Engineer for Marinily of Santa Cruz, California and traveled extensively for that company. Gene enjoyed reading, sports, traveling, nature, hiking and loved his family and friends.

Gene is survived by his wife, Gladys Medberry of Freeport, Illinois; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Harold) Burshtan of Wheaton, Illinois; nephew, David Burshtan of Huntington Beach, California, niece, Tracy Burshtan Gates of Wheaton, Illinois; great nephews, Bobby Burshtan of Ames, Iowa and David Burshtan Jr. of Wheatin, Illinois; great-nieces, Bailey Burshtan of Michigan, Morgan, Sydney and Lindsey of Wheaton, Illinois; and two Godchildren, Benjamin Tomsheck and Jacqueline Kinsinger.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Eva Medberry; and one brother, Earl Medberry.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the Officiant. There will also be a one hour visitation before the service from 10-11 am at the church on Saturday.

Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
