Cherlyn Raye Glann-Sutton, 62, beloved grammy, mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, was born June 15, 1957 in Bakersfield, CA. After suffering health complications, she went to be with her Lord on February 12, 2020.
Cherie graduated Shafter High Class of 1975 and was a recipient of the coveted Stringham Award. Later in life, after relocating to the Midwest, Cherie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Minnesota State University, Mankato. Her love of children spurred her to further continue her education, obtaining her Master’s Degree in Social work, which enabled her to advocate for, encourage, and improve the lives of high risk children in her surrounding area schools. Cherie loved giving herself to these kids.
Cherie (Grammy) adored her sweet grandchildren, KK and Keegan, their mother, Marcie, and all her “favorite” nieces and nephews, and would always have fun and exciting crafts planned for them when she came to visit during summers and holidays. Traveling from Iowa and packing all those craft supplies was quite the task, but Cherie gladly bore that burden, anticipating the joy it would bring the kids. Cherie cherished her son, Nick, and was extremely proud of his accomplishments. Her parents and sisters had numerous lengthy phone conversations, listening as Cherie would excitedly share about Nick’s most recent promotions, recognitions, and successes in his oil industry career. You could tell she was beaming with pride from Iowa to California! Cherie exuded generosity and selflessness. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones and friends. Cherie maintained her membership at Riverlakes Community Church in Bakersfield. We are so grateful to know she is now eternally resting in the arms of Jesus!
Cherie is survived by her son, Nicolas Glann; grandchildren, Cadence and Keegan Glann, of Odessa, Texas; her parents, Dean and March Sutton, of Shafter; her sisters, Deborah Allen (Kenneth) and Valerie Ragsdale (David), both of Bakersfield; and much loved nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family service at a later date.
Burnham-Wood-Grau, West Union, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
