Hazel L. (Wachter) Ellis, Patch Grove and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, July 26, 2020

Hazel L. (Wachter) Ellis, 100, of Patch Grove and Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020 at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She was born November 3, 1919 in Midland, South Dakota, the daughter of Herman and Mertie (Kaiser) Wachter. At the age of 20, she and her family moved to a farm at Woodman, Wisconsin in September 1940 with one brother and two sisters remaining in South Dakota.

Hazel was united in marriage with Oscar A. Ellis on February 10, 1945 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and he preceded her in death on January 25, 1985. They lived on the family dairy farm on Military Ridge from 1945 to 1982, when they built a home in Patch Grove, Wisconsin. Hazel resided in Patch Grove until 2001, when she made her home with her daughter, Lynn on the farm in rural Glen Haven for sixteen years. Due to failing health, Hazel moved to Prairie Maison in 2017. Hazel loved to bake, especially date filled cookies, doing needle crafts, playing cards and crocheting. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, WELCA in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and the American Legion Auxiliary-Grey-Wachter-Murphy Post Mt. Hope WI

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Lynette Erdenberger of rural Glen Haven, Wisconsin; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Roberts of Madison, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, William (Alesha) and Joseph Erdenberger of Glen Haven, Wisconsin and Carla and Kent Ellis of Madison, Wisconsin; three great-grandchildren, William, Ava and Thomas Erdenberger; one brother, Louis Wachter of Woodman, Wisconsin; a sister, Dorice Van Vorst of St. Paul, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Doris Ann Wachter of Fennimore, Wisconsin and Bernadine Wachter of Woodman, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by nine brothers, Harold, Clifford, Robert, Carl, Russell, Herman, Donald, Edward and Kenneth; three sisters, Cleone Eckert, Ina England and Florence Wachter; son, Frank “Butch” A. Ellis in 2014 and son-in-law, Wm. G. Erdenberger in 1998.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Union Nagle Cemetery in Patch Grove, Wisconsin with Rev. Miranda Klosterboer as the officiant.
