Ivon Harlan Ihlenfeldt was born May 29, 1923 in rural Clayton Center, Clayton County Iowa to Ernst and Alma (Heuer) Ihlenfeldt. He lived all his life in the Clayton County area and attended rural Wagner Township grade school and graduated from Farmersburg High School. He was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg.
On August 24, 1948 Ivon was united in marriage with Imogene Glawe in Clayton Center. A son, Harlan, was born to this union. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2018. They farmed together for most of their marriage near Farmersburg on the same farm Ivon moved to as a small child. They
moved to a retirement apartment in Monona in 2011. Ivon’s remaining days were spent at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin with some health issues. He resided there until his peaceful death on the morning of August 13, 2020, at the age of 97. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg.
Ivon enjoyed most any outdoor activities, especially fishing on the Mississippi backwaters or in Roberts Creek just over the hill from their farm in his younger days. He also always enjoyed a good polka tune and any discussion of vintage tractors (green or red, he owned both). He enjoyed farming and was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors with their farming duties.
Ivon is survived by his loving wife Imogene; his son, Harlan and daughter-in-law Judy; four grandchildren, Todd Ihlenfeldt of Ames, Iowa, Nicholas Ihlenfeldt of Davenport, Iowa, Christopher (Jennifer) Ihlenfeldt of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Julie (Kathy) Ihlenfeldt of Round Lake, Illinois; two great grandchildren, Kaley Ihlenfeldt and Aubrey Ihlenfeldt; a niece, Deborah Neels of Clinton, Iowa; and one nephew, Jerry (Deanna) Klinkenberg of Davenport, Iowa.
Ivon was preceded in death by his parents Ernst and Alma; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Leila and Richard Klinkenberg.
