Suzanne Jeanette Dahling, Elkader, Iowa, August 24, 2020

Suzanne Jeanette Dahling, 60, of Elkader, Iowa departed on her final journey Monday, August 24, 2020. She spent her final days in the hands of the caring and supportive staff at Elkader Care Center.

Sue was born October 5, 1959 at University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa and is the daughter of Marvin and Annette (McKay) Dahling. She attended Central Community Schools (Elkader) and Garnavillo Special Education.  Sue was a resident in the RISE group home for over 30 years and worked at their sheltered workshop. Sue was a lifetime member of Hope Lutheran Church of Littleport.

Sue enjoyed horseback riding, bicycling, planting flowers and weeding, completing puzzles, playing cards, coloring and beading. Watching movies was one of her favorite past times. Sue was able to take many motorhome trips with her parents. Together they traveled to both coasts, the Gulf of Mexico and Canada. A few of her favorite trips were to her niece’s wedding at the Outer Banks in North Carolina, a float plane trip over Lake of the Woods and once she took a trip to Disney World without her parents. One of her favorite memories was a time when Sue and her mom waded in a beautiful, clear stream in Michigan and discovered their feet were covered with leeches. Yikes! Her dad had to help pick them off. Some were big and some were as fine as a thread.  Another memory Sue liked was when they explored a big rock park in Georgia and had to walk on a swinging, suspension bridge to cross a gulch. Sue’s favorite place was the Golden Temple beside a reflection pond at the Botanical Gardens in Madison, Wisconsin.

Sue is survived by her parents, Marvin and Annette Dahling of Elkader, Iowa; sister, Debra (Jeffrey) Dencklau of Eagle Grove, Iowa; brother Matt (Julie) Dahling of Elkader, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Kara (Jodye) Hart of Hampton, Virginia, Kyle Dahling of Elkader, Iowa and Jennifer (Sam) Ferriss of Toledo, Iowa; and great-nephews, Wylder, Kali and McKade and a great-niece, McKenna.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Carl and Lula Dahling; and her maternal grandparents, Kenneth G. and Lucele McKay.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 28, 2020 at Union Cemetery in Littleport, Iowa with Rev. Margaret Yackel-Juleen as the Officiant.
