Mark Leo Delaney, Harpers Ferry, Iowa, September 25, 2020

Mark Leo Delaney, 89, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa died Friday, September 25, 2020 at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Mark was born March 31, 1931 to John Joseph and Cecelia (Conway) Delaney on a farm in Wexford, Iowa. He attended school through the eighth grade. Mark joined and served in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran.

On August 16, 1958, Mark was united in marriage with Margaret Saddler at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Throughout the years Mark worked at FS in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, worked for Riehm Construction with his grandson Shawn whom he also shared his birthday with and was a bulldozer operator up until age 83. Mark was a member of St. Ann/St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Harpers Ferry American Legion. He was also a volunteer firefighter with Harpers Ferry Fire Department. Mark enjoyed going for drives with Margaret, going out to eat, hunting, fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins.

Surviving Mark are his four children, Ronald (Jody) Delaney of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Deborah (Dale) Shafer of Monona, Iowa, Shirley (Steve) Hawes of Harpers Ferry, Iowa and Marilyn (Steve) Chase of Lansing, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his siblings, Patrick Delaney, Joseph Delaney and Delores (Bob) Mooney; brother-in-law, Richard (Donna) Saddler and many nieces and nephews.

Mark was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Delaney; parents, John and Cecelia Delaney; sister, Myrtle Egan; brothers, Aelred, Lester, Martin and John Delaney; granddaughter, Lisa Delaney; grandson, Andrew Chase; and great-grandson, Luke Aronson;

A Private Family Service will be held.

Casket Bearers will be John Delaney, Shawn Delaney, Matthew Hawes, Ryan Hawes, Jacob Hawes, Nicholas Hawes and Adam Chase.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Bridget Steinfeldt, Stacey Shafer, Tiffany Aronson, Amanda Chase, Stephanie Hawes and Adriana Baumler.
