Leonard Z. Martin Jr., McGregor, Iowa, February 16, 2021

Leonard Z. Martin Jr., 52, of McGregor, Iowa died Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at his home. He was born March 19, 1968 to Leonard and Joyce (Good) Martin in New Holland, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Pequea Valley High School and attended technical school to be an ASE certified Mechanic, he worked as a mechanic at Brown’s Sales and Leasing in Elkader, Iowa, continued to work at MPC for 6 years, and moved on to work at 3M in Prairie du Chien later in life.

Leonard was previously married to Ember (Trautsch)Martin for 18 years, a marriage which harbored their two children, Brandon and Shelby. Leonard was an exceedingly generous man with a heart of gold. Prior to his cancer, he was a firefighter of 15 years with the volunteer fire department in McGregor, greeting the small town with a few years under his belt from when he served a department in his home state of Pennsylvania. Leonard had a deep-seated love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, hiking and photography. He took pride in  the numerous wildlife pictures he had taken and made a goal of collecting passes to national parks he had visited with his girlfriend of 10 years, Sheri. Leonard cherished his family and made an effort not to pass his burdens on to others. He will always be a brother, uncle, and friend to the Trautsch family.

Surviving Leonard are his children Brandon Martin and Shelby Martin, both of McGregor, Iowa; girlfriend, Sheri King of McGregor, Iowa; his mother Joyce Martin of New Holland, Pennsylvania;  Siblings, Jackie Bills, Connie Marshall, and Lori Hoover, all of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews on the east coast; Sheri’s children, Nate (Alanna) Ihde of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Krista (Mac) McDowell of Germany and Chasity (Frank) Durman of Clermont, Iowa; and Sheri’s grandchildren, Destiny, Jadynn, Mason, Aydan and Jasper.

Preceding Leonard in death are his brother, Randall Martin and his father, Leonard Martin.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor, Iowa. A Scripture Service will follow the visitation at the funeral home with Pastor William Gentry presiding.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.
