Margaret “Meg” Cavanaugh, Mediapolis, Iowa, February 2, 2021.

Margaret “Meg” Cavanaugh, 61, of Burlington, Iowa died Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Azria Health Nursing Home in Mediapolis, Iowa after a long illness. She was born December 23, 1959 in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the daughter of Kaye and Tom Cavanaugh and raised by Kaye and Oscar Manning.

Meg spent most of her growing up years in Clear Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Mason City Newman High School. Meg went on to achieve a double major in Social Work and Psychology from the University of Iowa, she also went there to receive her master’s degree in Social Work.

Meg worked for 25 years as a Social Worker for Young House Family Service and for Great River Medical Center. Meg and her dog, Shamrock, also did volunteer therapy at ADDS and Hope Haven.

Meg was proud of the many activities she participated in, March of Dimes, Relay for Life, a variety of children charities, the Memory Walk, Jaycees, River Bend Credit Union, Des Moines County Animal Shelter, Mental Health activities and the Catholic Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Mary Beth Briggeman, Kathy (John) McMillian, and Jane (Howard) Gleeman; and two good friends whom supported Meg in good times and bad, Judy Brueck and Cindy Foulke.

Meg is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and two brothers, Robert Cavanaugh and Bill Cavanaugh.

Per Meg’s wishes, no flowers please, memorials may be sent to her favorite charity, the Des Moines County Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.

Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
