Cordell Lloyd Westphal, West Union, Iowa, March 6, 2021

Cordell Lloyd Westphal, 83, of West Union, Iowa died Saturday, March 6, 2021 at his home in West Union. He was born June 14, 1937 to Glenn and Josephine (Sohm) Westphal in Canistota, South Dakota. Cordell graduated from Washington High School, Sioux Falls, in 1955 and the University of Sioux Falls in 1961.

Cordell was united in marriage with Kathryn Wiswell on July 12, 1958. Five children were born to this union, Patricia, Christine, Sheryl, Michael and Cordell Lee. Cordell was a teacher for thirty-nine years, he spent twenty-nine years at North Fayette. He coached and officiated multiple sports. Cordell also owned and operated Westphal Small Engine Repair for forty years. He was also a Volunteer EMT for fifteen years.

Cordell loved sports, old cars, camping, traveling and really enjoyed visiting with people at his shop.

Cordell is survived by his wife, Kathryn Westphal of West Union; his children, Patricia Kay (Mike) Westemeier of Waterloo, Christine (Dennis) Entwisle of West Union, Sheryl (Mike) Francis of Mason City, Michael (Sue) Westphal of Colorado Springs and Cordell Lee (Kelli) Westphal of Omaha; grandchildren, Jennifer Westemeier, Brian Westemeier, Sherry Entwisle, Nick (Megan) Entwisle, Elijah Francis, Joshua Francis, Madison (Kyle) Vistuba, Abigail Westphal, Christopher Westphal and John-Luc Westphal; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Mason Griffin and Brendan Scroggins and Briggs Entwisle and a brother, Lester (Jori) Westphal of Phoenix, Arizona. Cordell was preceded in death by his sisters, Glenda Gelston and Mary Dvorkin.

Private Family services will be held with a burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
