Ronald Gregory Dougherty, Elkader, Iowa, May 1, 2021

Ronald Gregory Dougherty of Elkader, IA, passed away peacefully at his home on May 1, 2021. He was 61 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jean Dougherty and his infant brother, Gerald. Ron was born August 8, 1959, in Waukon, IA.

Ron is survived by four sisters, Julie (Tom) Hurley, Janelle Moon, Leah (Scott) Rued, Lori Dolan, and two brothers Mark (Erin) Dougherty and Daniel Dougherty.  He is also survived by fourteen nieces and nephews, Kathryn Hurley, Jacki (Hurley) Schiltz, Samantha (Hurley) Ness, Stephanie (Moon) Papka, Timothy Moon, Joseph Rued, Alex (Rued) Jones, Mackenzie Dolan, Michael Dolan, Hayley Dougherty, Bryn Dougherty, Kylie Dougherty, Clare Dougherty and Lucas Dougherty; and four great nieces and nephews; Cameran Schiltz, Emmett Schiltz, Aiden Moon and Wyatt Rued.

Ron was a graduate of the Central Community High School and was a valued client and friend at RISE, Ltd for over 34 years. Ron had a special devotion to his parents and enjoyed a warm and unique relationship with each of his siblings. However, Ron’s friendship and generosity was not limited to his family. He approached friends and strangers the same – with an outstretched hand for a warm handshake, a compliment and a series of sincere questions about how they, their job and their family were doing.  Invariably, he was an attentive listener…and not afraid to offer his advice! His connections were made while at RISE, driving around town, throwing darts, enjoying his Mountain Dew at local pubs, at his many doctor appointments, on vacations with family and anywhere else he found interesting people.

The family is deeply grateful for the care and love given to Ron by Jodi and her staff at Helping Hands as well as the remarkable and attentive care he received from Loretta and her team at Crossing Rivers Hospice.

Due to current COVID concerns, a private family funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elkader. Memorials are preferred to the Crossing Rivers Health Foundation, Hospice Program Fund, 37868 US Highway 18, Prairie du Chien, WI 53281.
