Donnie Lee Christenberry, 71, of West Union, Iowa died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Donnie was born on October 17, 1949 to Arley and Albertia (Romine) Christenberry in Cowlington, Oklahoma. He graduated from Keota High School in Keota, Oklahoma and continued his education at Oscar Rose Junior College in Midwest City, Oklahoma where he earned his associate degree. Donnie joined and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a medic while stationed in the Philippines. He served honorably, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant after eight years active duty and eighteen years in the reserves.
On July 19, 1968, Donnie was united in marriage with Judy Ross in Poteau, Oklahoma. Three children were born to this union. Throughout the years Donnie worked in the infirmary of the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester, Oklahoma and as a volunteer fireman in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. Donnie and his wife moved to West Union in 2000. He enjoyed reading Westerns, watching University of Oklahoma Football, and admiring classic cars. Above all, he cherished time with his family and caring for everyone he met.
Surviving Donnie are his wife, Judy Christenberry of West Union, Iowa; his three children, Kenneth Lee Christenberry and wife Rie of Colorado Springs, Colorado, James Alan Christenberry and wife Tracy of Anchorage, Alaska, and Danyl Lynn Christenberry of North Chesterfield, Virginia; one granddaughter, Katlyn Donni Holihan and husband Stephen of Saginaw, Michigan; and his siblings, Jesse Christenberry and wife Ernestine, Billy Christenberry and wife Barbara, Margie Christienberry, and Debbie Self.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Arley and Albertia, and his sisters, Betty, Freda, and Wanda.
