Victoria Ann Merritt, Strawberry Point, Iowa, June 24, 2021

Victoria Ann Merritt, 62, of Strawberry Point, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 24, 2021, at her residence, surrounded by family, after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer.  She was born October 30, 1958, to Gene Edward and Janice Joan ((Zapf) West in Prairie du Chien, WI. Vickie was a 1977 graduate of Central Community high school and attended Hamilton Business College for accounting. Through the years she worked for H&R Block, and the offices of The Wayne County Hospital and L&M Tire.

Vickie was the proud mother of five sons: Michael, Levi, Quinten, Clayton and Luke and the grandmother of nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to caring for and keeping up with a large family, Vickie enjoyed playing cards and spending time with family and friends at the cabin. Vickie was well known for being a good cook and had many highly sought after dishes such as her potato salad, goulash, and chili. Vickie was never a complainer and always kept a positive attitude which made her a joy to be around and will be truly missed by all. Vickie was confirmed and a longtime member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Littleport, Iowa.

Vickie was preceded in death by her son, Michael Nading; her infant grandson, William Nading; mother, Janice West and sister, Tammy West.

She is survived by her father, Gene West, of Strawberry Point; sons, Levi (Meghan) Merritt, Osceola, Quinten (Erin) Merritt, Clayton Merritt, and Luke Merritt, all of Seymour;  siblings, Ed (Lianne) West, Mankato, Tim (Debbie) West, Strawberry Point, Tina West, Monona, and Terry (Janet) West, Auburndale, FL;  eight grandchildren, Mary Ann, Zeb, Zach, Karsyn, Karleigh, John, Macy, and Lincoln; one great-grandchild, Deni, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Immediately following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life and Luncheon will be held at Tim and Deb’s cabin.

Graveside Service: 10:00 AM on Monday, June 28, 2021, at Union Cemetery, Littleport, IA.
