Steven James Hermen, 68, of Elgin, Iowa died suddenly Saturday, August 14, 2021 at his home. Steve was born February 12, 1953 to James and Rose Ella (Chase) Hermen in Postville, Iowa.
Steven was united in marriage with Mary Landis on August 26, 1972 at Arlington Lutheran Church, Arlington, Iowa. Five children were born to this union, Jennifer, Brian, Bradley, Randy and Rodney. Steve worked for DX, Falb’s and hauled milk. He also drove semi for many years, including owning his own semi and working for Pattersons Trucking and Bushman Trucking. In the last few years, he was semi-retired while still working for Simple M Trucking in Monona, Iowa. Steve enjoyed camping, live music, mowing lawn and socializing with friends and family.
Steve is survived by his children, Jennifer Williams of Elgin, Brian (Kellie) Hermen of Eldorado, Bradley Hermen of Elgin, Randy Hermen of Waukon and Rodney (Jennifer) Hermen of Elgin; his grandchildren, Angela, Steven, Meranda, Alisha, Krys, Zachary, Hailey, Noah, Brady, Hayley, Cameron and Bentley; great-grandchildren, Avery, Brayland and Bentley and a brother, Duane (Terri) Hermen of Mason City, Iowa and his children, Aaron and Hillary and his grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents, James and Rosella Hermen; great-granddaughter, Riley Larson; his mother in-law and father-in-law, Charles and Irene Landis; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Horseman; and brother-in-law, Lloyd Landis.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elgin, Iowa.
There will be a private graveside service at Elgin Cemetery in Elgin, Iowa with Pastor Rusty Phillips as the officiant.
