Darlene Frances (Kadlec) DeSotel, 92, formerly of Monona, Iowa died Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. Darlene was born the daughter of Joseph and Frances Levinsky Kadlec on the family farm east of Monona, Iowa on August 10, 1929. She attended the rural Beulah School which is now part of the visitor center at Spook Care. She graduated from Monona High School in May of 1945. Upon graduation she was employed as a book keeper at the Monona Lumber Yard for two years and then worked at the Union State Bank.
On August 6, 1948 Darlene was united in marriage with Raymond DeSotel. She began working as a bookkeeper at the Monona Lumber Company. She then worked for the Union State Bank as a teller. They had three children. In 1958, Darlene worked as a cook for six years in the school lunch room, and then returned to work at Union Sate Bank for the next twenty years. Darlene enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting and embroidery until her eyesight began to fail. She was an active member at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monona.
Surviving Darlene are her children, Linda Rae (Jim) Hamann, Scott Joseph (Kathy) DeSotel and Daniel Charles DeSotel and two grandsons, Matthew DeSotel and Justin Hamann. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Frances Kadlec; siblings, Lydia, Elheart, August, Fred, Raymond and George; her husband, Raymond; and one grandson, Jeremy Hamann.
A Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa with Rev. Erika Lenth as the officiant.
Inurnment will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Monona, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers or donations to the family, donations may be made to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Monona, MFL Mar-Mac Dollars for Scholars through Freedom Bank of Monona, Monona Museum of Monona and Murphy Memorial Library of Monona.
