Bonnie Jean James, 86, of Monona, Iowa died November 18, 2021 at Garden View Senior Community in Monona, Iowa. Bonnie was born December 27, 1934 to Floyd Ellsworth and Edna Martha (Zahren) Hakeman in Dickinson County, Iowa. She graduated from Sutherland High School in 1953. Bonnie went on to attended Buena Vista College from 1953 to 1954 and Upper Iowa University in 1969, earning her Bachelor Degree.
On December 27, 1953 Bonnie was united in marriage with Harold Joe James at Sutherland Methodist Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Two daughters were born to this union. Throughout the years, Bonnie taught school and enjoyed playing cards and golfing. She was a member of the golf course, bridge club, library board and the United Methodist Church Women.
Bonnie is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Greimann of Pawleys Island, South Carolina and Brenda (Greg) James of West Union, Iowa; four granddaughters, Jaclyn Greimann of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Leslie (Adam) Schulte of Omaha, Nebraska, Katie (Wayne) Slack of Dike, Iowa and Sarah (Chris) Miller of Waverly, Iowa; six great-grandchildren; and her sisters-in-law, Joyce Hakeman and Rebecca Anne (Rice) James.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Joe James; her parents, Floyd and Edna Hakeman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Glen and Flossie James; brothers, Harold Hakeman, Rodney Hakeman and Glen Hakeman; and two sisters-in-law, Faye (Brewster)Hakeman and Pauline (Briggs) Hakeman; son-in-law, Dale Greimann and one brother-in-law, Donald James.
A Family Graveside Service will be held.
Inurnment will take place in Monona Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
