Karen Jean (Young) Hallberg, 58, of McGregor, Iowa died Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Karen was born October 9, 1963 to James and Catherine “Kate” (Johnson) Young at Whiteman Air Force Base in Sedalia, Mo. She attended Mar- Mac High School and received her GED.
Karen was united in marriage with Dean Hallberg on June 13, 1992. One daughter was born to this union. They later divorced. For ten years, Karen worked at Clayton County Sheriff’s Office as a Dispatcher and Jailer and managed the Eagle’s Club in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin for ten years. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting and reading.
Surviving Karen are her daughter, Courtney (Landon) Shaw of Froelich, Iowa; grandchildren, Jayden Fiddler and Tinley Shaw; her mother, Kate Young; ex-husband and his son, Dean Hallberg and Jeff Hallberg; brother, David (Amy) Young of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; sister, Liz (Joe) Even of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four nephews, Nickolas (Cassie Becwar) Young, Garett Young, Brady (Emily) Even and Brett Even; great-nephew, Gavin Young; and special friends, Brenda (Lan) Kleinow and Josie Kleinow; She was preceded in death by her father, James Young.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in McGregor, Iowa.
A Private Family Inurnment will be held.
