Margaret (Marg) Mary Hogan, of Lansing, died Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing following a short illness.
Marg was born in Wexford, Iowa, to Eugene and Dorothy (Thornton) Brennan. She graduated from Clarke College in 1951 with an BA in History and Business education.
On Aug. 6, 1955, she married John Hogan at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing and the two soon began their lives La Porte City, Iowa.
Marg began her working career as a business teacher at La Porte and Hopkinton schools. In 1957, Marg and John moved back to Lansing to help with the family business, Brennan Construction, where she worked as office administrator and owner until her retirement in 1995.
She was a founder and longtime member on the board of directors for Thornton Manor; a position that gave her great pride and joy as she helped ensure the care of thousands over the decades she served in her role as director.
She found pleasure in travelling the world with her husband, children, and grandchildren, and enjoyed laughs and love with all her family members. Whenever anyone needed words of encouragement or life advice, Marg’s door was always open. Above all else, Marg prioritized her family and was a constant source of support and love for all those who were fortunate enough to know her in life.
Marg is survived by her four children: Susan Rothman of Duluth, Minn.; Kevin (Donna) Hogan and Mary Kate Hogan, both of Lansing; and Patrick (Robin) Hogan of La Crosse, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Russell and Douglas Rothman; Sean, Kate (Blake) Feuerhelm, and Dillon Hogan; Shannon and Connor Hogan; and Nell Hogan; and one great-granddaughter Adalyn Feuerhelm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Dan, and her loving husband of 54 years, John. A funeral service is scheduled for 11am March 29, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lansing, Iowa. In lieu of donations the family asks for donations to Thornton Manor or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, March 28, 2022 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Lansing, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before mass time at the church on Tuesday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, Iowa with Rev. Sean Smith as the celebrant.
Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Marg’s name to the Alzheimer Association and Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa.
