Charles Marcellus Stammeyer, 66, of Elgin, Iowa formally of St. Lucas, lowa passed away peacefully on June 2, 2022. He was the son of Donald Mathias and Margerete Mathilda (Tillman) Stammeyer. He was born on October 29th, 1955 in West Union, Iowa. Charlie grew up in St. Lucas and attended St. Luke’s Catholic School. He later graduated from Turkey Valley High School in 1974. After graduation, Charlie
joined the U.S. Army and served approximately 10 years. During this time he was fortunate to tour Italy, Germany and Korea. After serving in the U.S. Army, Charlie drove truck for Mihm Trucking and later worked for Gemini Inc. in which he retired from in 2020.
Charlie’s hobbies included camping or visiting his siblings as they camped, fishing, trips to the casino with family, playing Yatzee and especially grilling his famous bacon and cheese cabbage. Grilling steak was another passion. Charlie taught all the siblings that it takes two Clamatoes to grill the steak properly.
Charlie affectionally called his immediate family “cockroaches”, the in-laws “slugs” and nieces and nephews were the “varmints”. He maintained that he, alone, was the King Cockroach.
Charlie is loved and will be missed by his siblings, Steve and Gail of Lawler, Mike and Sue of Fort Atkinson, Marge and Burt Ostert of Alta Vista, Diane and Jeff Molokken of West Union, Donna and John Callan of Waucoma, Angie and Sam Smith of Era, Texas, Arlene and Ed Molokken of Coolidge, Arizona, Joyce and Marti McLain of Albia, Kurt of Elgin, Kay and Tom Gardner of Elkader, Brian of St. Lucas and James and Patty of Ossian. Charlie left a multitude of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins
Those welcoming him to his eternal rest are his parents, his sister, Susan; sister-inlaw, Janette; grandparents, Peter and Magdalena (Klemmer) Stammeyer and Edward and Catherine (Kipp) Tillman, many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Wednesday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at St. Luke Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa.
Burial will follow at St Luke Catholic Cemetery in St. Lucas, Iowa.
