Clarice Harriet (Aanes) Gass was born on January 22, 1920, in the house on the home farm near Clermont to Lloyd Monroe and Clara Tilda (Erickson) Aanes. She died on July 4, 2022, at Stoney Brook Village in West Union at the age of 102. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Clarice spent her early years on the farm and attended Woodland Country School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Clermont High School in the Class of 1937. Clarice was baptized and confirmed at East Clermont Lutheran Church. She was a member of West Clermont Lutheran Church where she participated in WELCA and a circle.
Clarice married LeRoy Gass on February 13, 1954, and they were lifelong residents of West Union. They enjoyed time at their trailer at Harpers Ferry, going on boating trips, fishing on the Mississippi River and being with family and friends. Clarice especially enjoyed her flowers, going on bus trips, watching Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games and working on puzzles.
Surviving Clarice are nieces and nephews, David (Julie) Aanes, Debra (Gary) Kleppe, Janet Aanes, Sue Aanes, Susan (Tim) Barry, Janis Dupuis, Paul (William) Aanes, Douglas (Christy) Aanes, Gregory Aanes, Christopher (Luckana) Aanes, Eric (Shelley) Aanes, Mike (Rita) Klein, and Kate (Bob) Elder, and several great nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lloyd and Clara Aanes, husband, LeRoy (September 21, 2009), four brothers, Lyle, Earl, Gerald, and Keith Aanes, sister, Jean (Kenneth) Anfinson, sisters-in-law, Mary (Lyle) Aanes, Ruth (Earl) Aanes, and Marilyn (Gerald) Aanes, and nephews, Robert Aanes and Steven Aanes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to West Clermont Lutheran Church or Gundersen Palmer Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, July 8, 2022 at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, July 8, 2022 at West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont, Iowa with Lay Minister, Michael Erickson as the officiant.
Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
