Joseph Bernard Reierson, West Union, Iowa formerly of Elgin, Iowa, September 6, 2022

Joseph Bernard Reierson, 94, of Elgin, Iowa passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Good Samaritan Society in West Union, Iowa. He was born on June 23, 1928 to Cornelius and Martha (Tollofson) Reierson on the family farm near Gunder. Joseph attended country school in the Marion Township and then served in the United States Army.

Joseph was united in marriage with Helen Lora Alice Eberling on April 13, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Joseph along with Helen spent their lifetime raising their five children, leading a Christian life and making a continued heritage on the “Reierson” Homestead near Gunder. Joseph also helped Rodney Butikofer with plumbing and sold seed corn for Tim Butikofer. He was a lifelong member of the Marion Lutheran Church, serving as Treasurer of the church for many years. Joseph also belonged to the Elgin American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering with chainsaws, woodworking, going to sales, dancing, playing cards and listening to buy, sell or trade radio shows.

Surviving Joseph are his daughter, Dr. Dixie Reierson-Miles (Kurt) of Cedar Rapids, IA and his step-daughters, Nick Knoblock and Brittney Miles and daughter, and Bailey Miles; Son, David Reierson of Elgin, Iowa and his children Lauren Wittmer (Garrett) and Matthew Reierson; Son, Ronald Reierson of Hawkeye, Iowa and his children, Andrew Reierson (Christine), Nicholas Reierson and Mitchel Reierson (Christine); Son, Dean Reierson (Connie) Clermont, Iowa and their children, Daniel Reierson (Breanna) Zackary Reierson (Erin) and Mark Reierson (Alex). Joseph is also survived by his great grandchildren, Isabelle and Ava Lynn Reierson, Amrie and Max Wittmer, Brayden, Merrick, Gage and Amara Reierson, Sydney Reierson, Cora, Finnegan and Warren Reierson and Ada and Ray Butz.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Reierson on October 28, 2020; son, Mark Reierson; parents, Cornelious and Martha Reierson; daughter-in-law, Debra Reierson; and two brothers, Mervin (Lillian) Reierson and Lloyd (Florence) Reierson.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 4-6 pm at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Monday.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, Iowa with Rev. Marshall Hahn as the Officiant.

Burial with Military Rites will follow at Marion Lutheran Cemetery, Gunder, Iowa.
