Darlene Oma Jacobson, 96 of Ankeny, Iowa formerly of West Union, Iowa died Sunday, October 9, 2022 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. Darlene was born December 12, 1925 to Carl and Ada (Flickenger) Kohler in West Union, Iowa. She attended West Union High School and graduated with the class of 1944.
Darlene was united in marriage with Lester H. Jacobson on February 2, 1951. Lester and Darlene welcomed two children into their home, Mark Leslie and Connie Sue. Throughout the years, Darlene worked at Tuckers Dime Store, Elsheimer’s Fine Meats, Browns Department Store and North High School in Food Service. She retired after the 2001 school year.
Darlene loved crocheting, was an avid reader, tending to her flower beds and vegetable garden. Her greatest love was fishing with Lester. Whether it be on The Mississippi at Lansing, the back waters near Prairie Du Chien or Volga Lake. They truly loved spending time together waiting for the fish to bite: often they didn’t catch anything, but they were together and that was all they ever needed. They were a couple who have spent their lives devoted to each other, lived quietly, faithfully and with unending love towards each other, they were married 62 years!
Darlene was an active member in Zion Lutheran and St. Olaf Lutheran Churches. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was a member of the guild and did whatever was asked of her to help the church.
Lester and Darlene moved to Winterset in 2010, after Lester’s failing health. While living at West Bridge Apartments, she made many new friends and continued her study of God’s word through Bible studies. She renewed her love for working jigsaw puzzles and would love the fellowship with her fellow puzzle solvers. Darlene moved to Ankeny in June of 2018 to live with her daughter Connie and son in law Paul. She continued working puzzles, reading and watching TV while dozing.
In May of this year, she fell and broke her ankle, her 1st ever broken bone! While she was in the hospital healing, she had a cardiac event and was placed in hospice care. She entered Sunny View Nursing home in late July.
Surviving Darlene are daughter, Connie (Paul) Klimesh of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren, Landon Klimesh, Riley (Austin) Bonnstetter and Parker Klimesh; brother-in-law, Ron and Gloria Jacobson and sister-in-law, Yvonne Griffin.
