Deanna Weidemann, West Union, Iowa, October 14, 2022

Deanna May (Holtzman) Weidemann, of West Union, passed away October 14, 2022 at the age of 82. Deanna was born November 13, 1939 to Robert and Iva (Adrian) Holtzman in Oelwein, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Oelwein, Iowa. She attended Stanley Consolidated School and graduated with the class of 1957. After graduation, Deanna attended one year at Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) then went to work for the Fayette County Attorney’s office in West Union.

In 1958 she met Paul Weidemann at Loftus Café. They were united in marriage on August 16, 1959; a union spanning 63 years. They were the first couple married at the newly built Zion Lutheran Church in West Union. Deanna and Paul had 2 daughters, Angela and Melanie.

Deanna also worked at D’Fays and then the Fayette County Abstract office.  She spent Friday nights at the Fayette County Speedway, where for approximately 27 years she could be found working at the pit gate.

Deanna and Paul enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with friends and wintered in Texas for 21 years.  Deanna enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren to hear about their adventures and accomplishments. She also enjoyed reading, baking, canning, taking evening walks around town, and visits from her sister-in-law Judy and her furry friend Sophie. Deanna also had a special place in her heart for several stray cats in the neighborhood which she cared for.

Deanna was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Paul, her daughters Angie (Ron) McConnell, Melanie (Brad) Steffens, four grandchildren: Blake (fiancé Courtney Pellett), Andrew, and Nathan Steffens, Alyson McConnell, her sister Delpha Holtzman and friend Tom Flagge, brother Delbert (Patti) Holtzman, two nephews and a niece.

There will be a Private Family Funeral held.
