Randa Niewoehner, Elkader, Iowa, October 19, 2022

Randa Niewoehner passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque of complications of Parkinson’s disease. She was born May 20, 1952 at West Union to Orlan and Beverly (Larson) Reimer.

Randa graduated from Central Community High School in 1970. She was united in marriage with Jack Niewoehner on May 29, 1971 at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. To this union, two children were born, Adam and Kari.

Randa was a sweet, kind, and gentle person who loved spending time with her family and close friends. She loved kids, and once the family home on Oak Avenue was built, cousins and neighborhood kids gathered there. Days were filled with offering piano lessons to her children, nieces, and nephews, offering homemade popsicles for picking dandelions from the lawn, and videotaping endless skits that the Oak Avenue kids came up with. Randa didn’t enjoy cooking, but baking was a passion, especially tweaking a recipe until it was perfect. Once she wasn’t as personally involved with her kids’ and the neighborhood kids’ antics, she was the best audience for their stories about life, often laughing so hard she would cry. And if you had a question about when something happened within the family, Randa had the best memory to fill in the details. By the time Atticus joined the family, Randa’s health had deteriorated, but she participated in whatever way she could, watching his Little League and soccer games from the truck and playing any game Atticus could talk her into.

Randa is survived by her husband, Jack Niewoehner, her children Adam Niewoehner and Kari (Colton) Whittle, and grandson Atticus Whittle; her mother; brothers John and James (Jeanice) Reimer and half-brother Robert Reimer Hendrickson.

She was preceded in death by her father and sister-in-law, Jane (Pedretti) Reimer, brother-in-law James Murphy and nephew Mark Murphy.

A private inurnment will be held at Elkader Eastside Cemetery.
