Calvin Gene Foels, 76, of Monona, Iowa passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at V.A. Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born September 12, 1946, in Clayton County, Monona, Iowa to Harlan and Harriet (Marfilius) Foels. He was baptized October 9, 1946 by Rev. Seamans and confirmed at Community Presbyterian Church on December 13, 1959 by Rev. Martin. He attended Postville Community School, where he was a graduating member of the class of 1964.
Calvin was united in marriage with Betty Ann Kirkestue on May 5, 1966 at the Presbyterian Church in Postville, by Pastor Harberts. Calvin was in the United States Navy from October 8, 1965 to January 30, 1970. During this time, he attended classes for Aviation Ordance in Jackson, Florida. He was assigned to the U.S.S. America, aircraft carrier. He spent time in Vietnam and many other locations, circling the world.
After leaving the Navy he worked for Robert Converse at Postville Implement for seventeen years. From there he went to fix caterpillars at Zieglar in Postville. Calvin retired March of 2012. He was an Elder at Community Church in Postville and also served on the building and grounds. Calvin was an avid outdoorsman and loved mushroom hunting and fishing or just drives through the country. He was passionate about his lawn and garden. Calvin looked forward to visits with his children and grandchildren.
Surviving Calvin is his wife, Betty Ann Foels of Monona, Iowa; his sons, Michael (Sherri) Foels of Ankeny, Iowa and Steven (Janna) Foels of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Madison Foels (special friend, Conor Wahlberg), Cole Foels (special friend, Andrea Waller) and Ashley Foels (special friend, Michael Peak); sisters-in-law, Caroline Lansing and Linda (Milo) Sebastian; and his nieces and nephews, Karsten (Beth) Foels, Jay (Jackie) Lansing, Julie (Rick) Richmond, Kelly Sebastian, Laurie (Brent) Thompson and John (Dawn Fiihr) Sebastian.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Harriet Foels; brother, Harlan Dean Foels; parents-in-law, Marion and Faye Wickham; sister-in-law, Shirley Foels; brother-in-law, Fred Lansing, Jr.; and niece, Christa (Foels) Parker.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at The Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa with Pastor Karla Johnson as the officiant.
Burial with Military Honors will follow at Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa.
