Larry Troy Smith, Clermont, Iowa, January 31, 2023

Larry Troy Smith, 59, of Clermont, Iowa died Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union, Iowa. Larry was born January 28, 1964 to Earl and Agnes (Szabo) Smith in San Bernardino, California and confirmed on May 6, 1979 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa. Larry graduated from Postville High School in 1982 and attended NICC in Calmar, Iowa for mechanics schooling. He was in the U.S. Navy, serving from July 1984 to April 1988.

Larry has two children, Angela (26) and Cody (20) both of Clermont, Iowa. He worked as a church custodian at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia for many years and had in thirty years as a tool maker at Stanley Engineered and Fastening in Decorah, Iowa. Larry enjoyed antiques, old cars, loved music, especially ZZ Top, metal detecting, collecting old coins and vinyl records. He also loved watching You Tube. Larry loved meteorology and learning about severe weather. He loved cooking and baking, singing and dancing as he did so. He loved spending time with his family and learning about family history always. He also had 2 cats, Lakers and Packers that he loved dearly. Larry was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, Iowa.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Angela Smith of Clermont, Iowa and his son, Cody Smith of Clermont, Iowa, his brother, Kevin (Janet) Smith of Castalia, Iowa; his sister, Deanna (Craig) Poff of Saint Paul, Minnesota and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Agnes Smith; paternal grandparents, William and Margaret Smith and maternal grandparents, Steve and Laura Szabo.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, Iowa with Rev. Daryl Schultz as the officiant.

Inurnment will follow at Bloomfield Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa.
