Beverly Kay Probert, Wadena, Iowa, February 25, 2023

Beverly Kay Probert, 81, of Wadena, Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Promise House, Hiawatha, Iowa. She was born to the late Meryl and Reta (Sweet) Hokel, July 1, 1941 in Hampton, Iowa. Beverly graduated from North High School in West Union, Iowa in 1959 and received a Bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA.

She married the late Jere Probert in 1960 in West Union, Iowa. They lived on the Probert family farm and were blessed with three children. Beverly is survived by Lisa (Roger) Settje of Lynchburg, VA; Denise Probert of Lakewood, CO and Stephen (Naomi) Probert of Cedar Rapids, IA. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers, three brothers-in-law and dozens of nieces and nephews. Beverly was predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, in 2022.

Beverly committed her adult life to nourishing hearts and minds by creating, with her loving husband, a Christ-centered home for all to enter and be loved and nurtured. She accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as an adult, young wife and mother. And, her love for her Lord was bigger than life and it was contagious. In the quiet moments of home life, usually before the light of day and certainly before others rose, you would find her reading her Bible and praying. Her hugs were always prayerful and nurturing. Conversations with her were always meaningful.

Beverly loved teaching elementary school and dedicated her teaching career to the Valley of Elgin and Central school districts where she taught more than thirty years. She finished her career teaching science to all elementary ages growing in her students both a knowledge and a love for science. In her classes, you were certain to dissect a cow’s heart to learn how all hearts work.

Beverly’s heart was huge. She loved her family almost as much as she loved the Lord. As a Mom and Grandma, she showed us unconditional love and grace. She read to and with us a lot. She played games and put together puzzles with us. She ate ice cream with us every day if we wanted. She made great lefse. She taught us, by example, how to be good parents and spouses and citizens and employees. She taught us with God’s love.
