Justine Eleanor Nesvik, West Union, Iowa, March 25, 2023

Justine “Tuffy” Eleanor Nesvik, 90, of West Union, Iowa, died Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa. Justine “Tuffy” Eleanor Nesvik was born January 6, 1933, in West Union, Iowa, to LeRoy Alden and Vivian Imogene (Schroyer) Sturch.Tuffy attended school in West Union, graduating in 1950 from West Union High School.

On June 27, 1954, Tuffy was united in marriage to James Lawrence Nesvik at Bethel Presbyterian Church, West Union, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Stacy and Eric.

Tuffy worked various jobs during her lifetime. After high school, she was a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell. She then went to California to work for Pacific Telephone & Telegraph returning to West Union to again work for Northwestern Bell. When the telephone company changed from the switchboard to dial, she decided to pursue a career at the Fayette County Assessor’s Office as the Deputy Assessor where she was employed for 35 years.

Tuffy was a proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she served as secretary for many years. She enjoyed knitting, cross stitching Christmas stockings for her great grandchildren, was an avid BINGO player, a crossword fanatic, a member of the Gambling Grandmas who enjoyed traveling to various casinos, worked many November elections, and was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church serving on various committees over the years. Tuffy visited all 50 states throughout her lifetime.

Tuffy was preceded in death by her husband, James Nesvik, parents, LeRoy and Imogene Sturch, sister Mary Jean Turner, brothers-in-law, Sam Turner and Merlin Miller.

Survivors include her children, Stacy Nesvik and Eric (Kaylene) Nesvik, grandchildren Joshua (Megan) Rike, Scott (Sarah) Rike, Allison Rike, Stefanie (Matt) Swinton, Jeffrey (Megan) Nesvik, Thomas (Carrie) Nesvik, greatgrandchildren, Luke Pospisil, Mia Pospisil, Anja Pospisil, Lexus Rike, Henry Rike, Teddy Rike, Hayden Swinton, Aubrey Swinton, Nolan Swinton, Calvin Nesvik, Nora Nesvik and Jackson James “JJ” Nesvik.

Additional survivors include her sister, Carleen Miller, brother, Thomas Sturch, and many nieces and nephews.

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union, Iowa with Rev. Don Best as the officiant.

Burial will follow at West Union Cemetery in West Union, Iowa.

Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in West Union, Iowa is assisting the family with services.

In lieu of flowers, Tuffy requested memorials be given to the West Union Recreation Foundation or Bethel Presbyterian Church.
