Carol Stahr, 81, of West Union, Iowa died Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at her home in West Union. She was born February 3, 1942 to Alfred and Olivia (Roelike) Winter in Postville, Iowa. She graduated from Postville High School, Postville, Iowa in 1959.
Carol was united in marriage with Allen Scott Stahr on October 14, 1961 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville, Iowa. Four children were born to this union, Timothy, Julie, Eric and Catherine. Carol was a reporter for the Fayette County Union Newspaper, West Union, Iowa for almost twenty years. She was a very active member of Holy Name Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of America. Carol was an avid bowler, participating in Nationals for over twenty-five years. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing trivial pursuit and skit and also belonging to a card club.
Carol is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Allen “Scott” Stahr of West Union; her children, Timothy Stahr of Orange City, Iowa, Julie (Brian) Keely of Forest City, Iowa, Eric Stahr of Decorah, Iowa and Catherine Cooksley of West Union; nine grandchildren, Sarah Keely, Samuel Keely, Allison Stahr, Natalie (Jay) Mammay, Seth Stahr, Nina Stahr, Madeline Stahr, Ryker Cooksley and Olivia Cooksley; her brother, Marvin Winter of Postville, Iowa; her sister, Gloria Mason of Mason City and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Doris Usher, Eileen Smith, Eldred Winter, Ione Burnett and Eugene Winter.
A Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 am on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union, Iowa with a visitation before Mass from 9-11 am at the church on Monday. Rev. Ralph Davis will be the Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
