Ronald “Butch” Lee Thornton, 76, of Arlington, Iowa (formerly of Postville and Monona, Iowa) died Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Cedar Valley Hospice House, in Waterloo, Iowa. Ronald was born August 15, 1946 to Leo Merwyn and Dorothy (Fox) Thornton in Postville, Iowa. After attending high school, Butch joined and served in the United States Navy.
Butch was married to Connie Havlicek and four sons were born to this union. They later divorced. On May 8, 2004 Butch was united in marriage with Leonette “Lee” Hastings. She passed away on April 14, 2023. Throughout the years Butch worked as a Truck Driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and loved the New York Yankees.
Surviving Butch are his four sons, Lonnie (Paula) Thornton of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Jonnie (Stacie) Thornton of Robins, Iowa, Timothy Thornton of Omaha, Nebraska and Toby Thornton of Monona, Iowa; grandchildren, Aliyah, Garett, Kelby, Jake and Cole, Austin and Nash, Piper and Bianca; great-grandchildren, Ava, Kinsley and River; brother, Bill (Leona) Harris of Postville, Iowa; step children, Corene Richards, Milburn (Julie) Smith, Aaron (Nikki) Smith, Emery (Kathy) Smith and Eric (Alison) Smith; twelve step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leonette Thornton; and one sister, Peggy Berg.
There will be a Visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm on Saturday, June 17, 202 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Postville, Iowa.
A Graveside Service will be held following the visitation at 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa with Pastor Karla Johnson as the officiant.
