Lois Marie Bruehahn, 87, of Monona, Iowa passed away Friday February 3, 2023, at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa surrounded by her family. Lois was born on July 25, 1935, to Helmuth and Esther (Wegner) Suckow in Randalia, Iowa. She was baptized September 15, 1935, at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maynard, Iowa and confirmed on May 28, 1950, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Froelich, Iowa. She graduated from Maynard Consolidated School on May 15, 1953. After graduation, Lois worked at Pinicon Ford in Cedar Rapids. She moved to Washington DC and worked there for a time before moving back to northeast Iowa.
Lois was united in marriage to Walter W. (Sockie) Bruehahn on June 2, 1957, at the Lutheran Church in Maynard, Iowa. Sockie and Lois moved onto the family farm where they milked cows and raised livestock, crops, and their children. Lois enjoyed and cherished her family, including the furry ones, farm life, casino hopping with friends and family, puzzles, game shows and bowling. She bowled for over 50 years (sometimes up to 3 days a week) and enthusiastically anticipated her annual bowling trips to the state and national tournaments all over the country with her beloved bowling buddies.
Lois is survived by her four children: Brenda (Brad) Schneckloth of Ida Grove, IA, Bonnie (Larry) Lembke of Postville, IA, Barbara (Dave) Vorwald of Monona, IA and Wade Bruehahn of Elkader, IA; eight grandchildren: Alicia (Curt Spreckles), Schneckloth, Aaron (Julie) Schneckloth, Aric (Rachael Behrendsen) Schneckloth, Curtis Lembke, Dana Lembke (Marty Schaeuble), Evan (Sarah) Lembke, Nikki Schlitter, and Amanda Schlitter; nine great grandchildren: Brayden, Levi, and Colton Schneckloth, Penelope and Eleanor Lembke, Luca and Liam Lembke, Addison and Jaxson Schlitter; four siblings: Betty Ball of Monona, IA, Robert (LuDean) Suckow of Maynard, IA, Raymond (Dorothy) Suckow Postville, IA, and Shirley Bender of Maynard, IA as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helmuth and Esther Suckow, husband of 42 years, Walter (Sockie) Bruehahn, brothers and sisters in law Robert Ball, Roger Bender, JoAnne Suckow, Georgia and Gene Dull, Grace and Don Plumlee, four nephews and two nieces.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Faith Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa with Rev. Mel Harris as the officiant. There will be a one hour visitation before services at the church.
Inurnment will follow at Monona, City Cemetery in Monona, Iowa.
