Carol Ann Guyer, West Union, Iowa, September 23, 2023

Carol Ann Guyer, age 77, of West Union sadly passed away on September 23, 2023, at UnityPoint Health-St Luke’s Hospital-Cedar Rapids.  She was born on September 27, 1945, in Postville, IA, to Paul and Iona Welzel.  She graduated from Postville High School in 1964.  She married Russell C. Guyer on September 24, 1965.  Carol is survived by her four daughters: Cheryl (Dean) Schmitt, Linda (Darby) Jellings, Jackie (Charlie) O’Connell, and Stacy Oakland.  She is also survived by her sister Linda (Bill) Anderson, 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren with two on the way.  Carol was preceded in death by her son Jay Guyer and parents.

Carol was a dedicated homemaker while raising her five children on a rural farm in West Union.  Later in life she moved from the farm and settled in town where she managed her own house cleaning business. She finished her career employed in environmental services at Gunderson Palmer for eight years.

Carol loved flowers and gardening, attending country music festivals with her sister and daughters, and loved the chance to make a pan of chocolate cookie sheet bars or strawberry pie to share with friends and family.  She enjoyed spending her days starting with her coffee club and wrapping up the day with a trip to the boat in McGregor.

She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her.  She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in West Union Palmer Apartments.  She lived a fulfilling life with a kind and gentle heart and was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.

The family requests that people make donations to your charity of choice in lieu of flowers or gift of money.
