Joseph “Joey” Patrick Rathbun, 30 of Monona, Iowa passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023. Joseph was born March 4, 1993, the son of Matthew and Christine (Jones) Rathbun. Joey graduated from Waukon High School in 2011.
On October 20, 2018, Joey was united in marriage to Katie Rogers. To this union a beautiful daughter was born, Raegan. Joey was employed as a Welder at Gencor in Marquette, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, kayaking and riding and repairing his “toys”. Joey was very talented in his art of wood working, drawing and carving. He could be found spending time in “Joey’s Exotic Garden” or making funny videos that he would share on social media. He looked forward every morning to stopping at the Casey’s General Store for his morning fix. But nothing brought Joey more joy than spending time with Katie, Raegan, his family and friends. He was a light in everyone’s life and we want everyone to remember him that way.
Surviving Joey are his wife and daughter, Katie and Raegan Rathbun of Monona, Iowa; his parents, Matthew and Christine Rathbun of Waukon, Iowa; siblings, Brittny (Ben) Droessler of Dubuque, Iowa; Olivia (Austin Ollendieck) Rathbun of Waukon, Iowa and Tyler Rathbun of Waukon, Iowa; great-grandmother, Betty White; mother- in-law, Janet Rogers of Monona, Iowa; sister-in-law, Shannon (Daniel) Duffy; grandparents, Sue Perkins, Sue Ellen (Dave Miller) White and Jim & Sue Rathbun; grandfather-in-law, Milt Morrison; nieces and nephews, Max & Myles Droessler, Lilli (Caleb) Knipp, Austin Duffy, Aliyah Cashen-Duffy, Nicholas Duffy, Samantha Duffy, Alex Duffy and AJ Cashen.
Joey was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jim Jones; father-in-law, Dennis Rogers; grandparents-in-law, Vera Morrison and Norman and Irma Rogers; uncle, Mike Jones; special friends, Ty Riehm and Ben Kerndt
A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday September 29, 2023 at the Waukon Banquet Center in Waukon, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Joey’s honor to his family.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
