Brian Dale Thomas, Elgin, Iowa , March 30, 2024

Brian Dale Thomas, 62, of Elgin Iowa died on March 30th, 2024, after an almost 3-year fight against glioblastoma, at his home in Elgin, Iowa. He was surrounded by his wife, daughters and family in his last days.

Brian was born at Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union, Iowa on July 11th, 1961 to Milton “Woody” and Corrine “Kay” Thomas. He graduated from Valley Community High School in 1979. Brian attended Northeast Iowa Technical Institute (NICC) for two years and received his degree in Agricultural Business.

Brian was first married to Barbara Jean (Moyle) Thomas, from this marriage his four daughters were born. This marriage ended. He then met his wife, Krista Noelle (Fettkether) Thomas in 2006, they married on June 20th, 2009 at Elgin Lutheran Church. Through this marriage, Brian had also opened his arms and heart to his two stepchildren.

For many years, Brian worked as a laborer. He more recently was employed at Norplex in Postville, Iowa and worked as a treater-operator for 17 years. Brian volunteered his time over the years to the Wadena Fire Department, Elgin Fire Department, and was a member of the Elgin City Council for 3 years.

Brian enjoyed riding his Harley, going on side-by-side rides, hunting, fishing, mushroom and rock hunting, antiquing, spending much of his time outdoors and spending time with his family.

Brian has been known for his kind, caring, and loving heart, and his sarcastic and fun personality. He almost always had a sarcastic or smart-ass comment for his friends and family. He could always be found with a smile on his face and found joy in making people smile and laugh. He enjoyed going on adventures with his wife, spending time with his daughters, as well as playing with his grandchildren. Brian was always thinking about others, putting his family first, and liked to be able to help his neighbors in any way he could.

Brian is survived by his wife, Krista, of 14 years; four daughters: Bridget (Tanner) Creery, Abigail Thomas, Heather (Jeremy) Hills, and Hallie Thomas (Collin Morris); two stepchildren: Tyler (Sabrina) Olson, Koree Olson; his 13 grandchildren: Hayden, Haizley, Everly (Bridget), Estella (Abbie), Jaxon, Brysen, Hudson (Heather), Blake, Emerson (Hallie), Kodah, Brodi, Taysom, Knox (Tyler); parents Woody and Kay (Kuhens) Thomas; four siblings: Deb (Jim) Dahl, Kevin (Kathy) Thomas, Cindy (Eric) Boehm, and his many loved nieces and nephews.

Family he followed in to Heaven include grandparents: James and Luseva Thomas and Dale and Marion Kuhens; aunts and uncles; nephew Brenton Thomas.

According to his wishes, cremation will take place and a memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Marion Lutheran Church, 14734 Agate Road, Elgin, IA 52141 and one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial service will be held at 1:00PM at Marion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 with Rev. Marshall Hahn as the officiant. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
