Eunice Leveia Carlson, McGregor, Iowa, March 18, 2024

Eunice Leveia Carlson, 95 of McGregor, Iowa passed away Monday, March 18, 2024 at Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. Eunice was born December 15, 1928 to Elmer and Leona (Kraus) Nading in Edgewood, Iowa.  Eunice attended country schools through the eighth grade and a half of year of high school in McGregor. Eunice then stayed home and helped on the farm, doing chores and milking cows.

On December 27, 1946 Eunice was united in marriage with George William Carlson. Seven children were born to this union. Eunice was busy raising the children, being a housewife and farmer. She later went to work for The White Springs, McGregor Electronics, Monona Wire and Walmart until her retirement. Eunice enjoyed listening to country music, dancing, playing cards and traveling. Her greatest joy was gatherings with her family and friends. She was a very active member of First Lutheran Church and her church family was an important part of her life.

Although money was never plentiful in her life, Eunice always considered herself rich. She was always strong in spirit, even though she had endured so much loss. She survived losing her parents, husband, sisters, brothers and much of her generation. Eunice had lost much of her vision, which caused her to lose her freedom to drive and be independent. Hearing loss also added to her difficulties but the most trying for her was the loss of her granddaughter, Beth, her oldest son, Dennis and her youngest daughter, Sharon. But through it all Eunice continued to smile and give hugs to everyone.

Surviving Eunice are five of her children, Sue (Mike) Thomas, Dave (Laura) Carlson, Sandy (Jerry) Steele, Rich Carlson and Roger (Jan) Carlson; daughter-in-law, Teresa Carlson; son-in-law, Rick Yeazle; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; twenty-five great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Edith Nading and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Leona Nading; husband, George Carlson; daughter, Sharon Yeazle; son, Dennis Carlson; stepfather, Clarence Schmidt; granddaughters, Beth Abel and Amanda Thomas; great-grandson, Clayton Shaw; son-in-law, Steve Hubanks; brothers and sisters, Marvin Nading, Dwain and Joyce Nading, Marcella and Clarence Gregerson and Melva and Elmer Wagner.
