Karen Ann Paulson, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, March 4, 2024

Karen Ann Paulson, 63, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, passed away Monday, March 4, 2024, at Crossing Rivers Health. Karen was born August 12, 1960, to Paul Loren and Myra Jurine (Aspenson) Paulson in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School, earned her Bachelors Degree in History from UW-Platteville and continued her education at UW-LaCrosse where she earned her Masters Degree in Education.

On July 18, 1987, Karen was united in marriage with Paul “Bill” Small at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien. Karen began her teaching career as a student teacher and substitute teacher in DeSoto, Wisconsin. She continued her career as a Social Studies Teacher at Cassville High School in Cassville, Wisconsin, from 1986 until her retirement in 2020. Karen enjoyed reading, embroidery, needlework, and traveling with her husband, Bill.

Surviving Karen are her husband Paul “Bill” Small of Prairie du Chien; brother Carroll (Janet) of Prairie du Chien; sisters -in-law De Paulson of Monroe, Wisconsin, Lavonne Paulson of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Helen Ann (Roy Wallin) Zabel of Prairie du Chien; nieces and nephews Randy (Kim) Paulson, Bruce Paulson, Jill (Chris) Cass, Lynne (Kent) Hendrickson, Kerri (Shawn) Steinmann, Angela (Dave) Carlson, Mike (Chasidi Kansier) Zabel, Maureen (Josh) Runyon, and their families.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Myra Paulson; two brothers, Paul Edward Paulson and Gary Allen Paulson; mother-in-law Veronica M. Small; and nephew Dennis Paulson.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm with visitation from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Friday, March 22, 2024, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, with Rev. Hillary Burns-Kite at the officiant.
