Gertrude Jean Stanbrough, 89, of West Union passed away April 4, 2024 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. Gert was born July 28, 1934 in Dumont, Iowa, to Oliver and Winifred (Titus) Stubbe. Gert attended school until the tenth grade.
Gert was united in marriage to Donald C. Stanbrough on December 15, 1950. To this union four children were born. Gert was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Prairie View Auxiliary, Birthday club, card club, art club and the Red Hats. Gert was employed at Palmer Hospital, Heying Foods, and was a caregiver for many years. She enjoyed woodworking, painting, bus trips – especially to Branson and embroidering quilts for grandchildren. Gert enjoyed making pies and often received comments that they “were the best they ever had” Gert will be missed by many.
Gert is survived by her daughters, Pamala (Mark) Halverson, Melody (Jerry) Daniels; son, Patrick (Jennifer) Stanbrough; eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Gert was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Michael; two sisters and three brothers.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home in West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the funeral home on Friday.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home in West Union, Iowa with Deacon Patrick Malanaphy as the officiant.
Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Auburn, Iowa.
