Rowland Boyd Hackmann, Clermont, Iowa, April 14, 2024

Rowland Boyd Hackmann, 84 of Clermont, Iowa passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 at his home. Rowland Boyd Hackmann was born August 6, 1939 in the Hackmann House in Elgin, Iowa, to Reuben & Mildred (Rowland) Hackmann.

Rolly accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Elgin in 1951. He attended Fayette Community Church until a few years ago when his health didn’t allow it. He loved music and sang in the Keystone Chorus for 25 years.

After graduating from Clermont High School in 1957, Rolly held many jobs in the community including a milk drying plant, Osterhus Repair, portable feed mill operator, Taylor Auto, Decorah Implement and Falb Implement, finally opening his own repair shop on the family farm in 1987. He was very partial to the “red ones”. Rolly had a wonderful understanding of all things mechanical and could fix almost anything.

Rolly was married to Arlette Kapell from 1961 to 1968, 3 children were born to this union-Robyn, Traci and Michael.

Rolly married Barbara Burget Walleck in 1974, Barbara had two children, David and Tracy. To this union 3 children were born, Blake, Brent and Bethany.

In 1971 Rolly’s father passed away so he purchased the home farm and worked it until 2014 when health issues forced him to rent it out. He loved the land and was fiercely loyal to it.

Rolly passed away peacefully, on Sunday, April 14, 2024. He was able to stay at home, in his last days, which meant so much to him.

Rolly will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love for his best canine friend, Murphy.

He will be missed by many! Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara, his 8 children-Robyn (Chris) Strong, Elgin, Iowa, Traci (Tom) Bates, Prior Lake, Minnesota, Michael Hackmann, Gunder, Iowa, David (Tammy Courter) Walleck, Gunder, Iowa, Tracy (Jerry) Mitts, Clermont, Iowa, Blake (Tammy) Hackmann, Clermont, Iowa, Brent (Renee) Hackmann, Monona, Iowa and Bethany Hackmann, Lee Summit, Missouri. 15 Grandchildren: Loren Strong, Michael (Amy) Strong, Aaron (Kelsey) Strong, Rachael (Robbie) Kerr, Isabella and Isaiah Bates, Josi Baker, Justin and Faith Walleck, Zachary (Emily) Mitts, Alison Mitts (Roger Haines), Gabriel, Hailey and Alexander Hackmann, Kellin Hackmann. 10 Great-grandchildren: Nova, Rowan and Navy Strong, Leo and Cooper Strong, Jackson and Archie Kerr, Elijah Even, Ezlyn and Marren Mitts, 1 Brother: Paul (Judy) Hackmann, Winters, California. Two sisters, Linda Crow, Olathe, Kansas and Alice Menne, Oskaloosa, Iowa. Several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and 1 brother-in-law, Robert Crow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Clermont Fire & Ambulance or Gundersen Palmer Lutheran

A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont, Iowa.

Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Clermont, Iowa with Pastor Brian Bremner as the officiant.

Burial will follow at God’s Acres in Elgin, Iowa.
