Ralph John Kneeland, 89 of Clermont, Iowa passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Gunderson Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, Iowa. He was born March 23, 1935 to Clement and Viola (Schmelzer) Kneeland in Clermont, Iowa. Ralph graduated from Clermont High School in 1954. He proudly joined the United States Army and served as a cook in the Army, a role that demonstrated his dedication to serving others.
Throughout the years Ralph worked at the creamery in Clermont, an engineering company in West Union and from 1983 to 2002 he worked as a Line Engineer for REC. Ralph was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clermont and also a member of Knights of Columbus.
He spent nearly all his life in the home he grew up in, cherishing the community and people around him. Ralph was well-known and loved in Clermont, often seen taking his nightly walks around town, greeting everyone with a quick wit and a good story. He made fast friends with anyone he met, and his presence was a bright spot for many.
A kind and gentle man, Ralph had a strong and abiding faith, serving as a role model of faith to many in the community. His simple, happy life was filled with countless friends who respected and admired him deeply. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, sharing not just stories but also the fruits of his beloved garden. His neighbors looked forward to his homegrown tomatoes each season, a testament to his generous spirit.
Ralph cared deeply for his family, and shared many happy memories with his sister Ellen. His dedication and love for her were evident to all who knew them.
Ralph will be remembered for his warmth, his humor, and his unwavering faith. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, friendship, and generosity.
He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will live on, as he was family to those who knew him best.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Viola Kneeland and his sister, Ellen Kneeland.
A Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Friday, May 24, 2024 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa with Rev. Ralph Davis as the Celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Clermont, Iowa.
