Roger LaVerne Boleyn, Elgin, Iowa, July 12, 2024

Roger LaVerne Boleyn, 82 of Elgin, Iowa passed away, Friday, July 12, 2024 at his home in Elgin, Iowa. Roger was born July 20, 1941 to Leo and Frieda (Miller) Boleyn in Elgin, Iowa. He graduated from Valley High School in 1959 and in 1997 he earned his Welding Certificate from NICC.

On November 30, 1962, Roger was united in marriage with Gretchen Meyer at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Three children were born to this union.

Throughout the years, Roger worked as a Dragline Operator for Rock Island Rail Road for seventeen years and for Fayette County, retiring in 2006. He also helped his brother David do concrete work. Roger was a volunteer on the Elgin Fire Department and was an EMT. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and cutting wood. Roger was an excellent guitar player and entertained folks for over twenty years with his talent.

Surviving Roger are his wife, Gretchen Boleyn of Elgin, Iowa; his three children, Mike (Joan) Boleyn of Elgin, Iowa, Deborah (Terry) Ford of Atkins, Iowa and Steve Boleyn of Elgin, Iowa; three grandchildren, Brianna Green of Clermont, Iowa, Joshua (Grace) Boleyn of Clermont, Iowa and Valerie (Lance) Zobel of Protivin, Iowa; two great-grandsons, Xavier and Xander Green; brother, David (Kay) Boleyn of Elgin, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Donna Boleyn of Elgin, Iowa, Marilyn Nelson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dianne Westendorf of Waverly, Iowa, brother-in-law Charles Fett of Janesville, WI and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Roger in death were his parents, Leo and Frieda Boleyn; granddaughter Sara Boleyn; great-granddaughter, Alice Christen; and his siblings, Raymond (Lois) Boleyn, Robert (Rosella) Boleyn, Marilyn (Linus, Jr) Hildebrand, Barbara (Tom) Meis, and Dennis Boleyn. Sister in law Dorothy Fett, Brothers-in-law Henry Nelson and Dennis Westendorf.

A Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2024 at Elgin Lutheran Church in Elgin, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Tuesday.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Elgin Lutheran Church in Elgin, Iowa with Rev. Adam Starrett as the officiant.

Interment will follow in the Elgin Cemetery in Elgin, Iowa.
